[edit] Population
The school population is at an estimated 550 students, making it the second largest in population of the county school district. Several years ago, 2 mobile units to house 2 more fifth grade classes were added. They stand in the area that used to be the courtyard for the middle school.
[edit] Transformation
The school used to serve as a middle school. In the 80's, it was turned into an elementary school. The middle school moved into the old high school, in Dayton. now Wilbur S. Pence Middle School. The high school was forced to move across the road from the now John Wayland Elementary. They had to build a new building in the late 80's for the high school. The original elementary school, on Dinkel Avenue in Brigewater, moved into John Wayland. The old elementary building, the former Bridgewater Elementary School, is now Blue Ridge Christian School.
[edit] Additions
In the 90's, the elem. school added a 3rd-4th grade wing. This wing has a self-adjustable air conditioning system, unlike the original building. Both buildings architecturally match. Also, unlike the old area's restrooms, the new 3rd/4th wing has handicap accessible restroom. This wing only houses 1 wheelchair accessible exit. This wing also houses staff restrooms, an art room, a small activity room, and 3 "TLC" rooms.
