John Stevens Waller

John Stevens Waller was the seventh Suffragan Bishop of Stafford [1]. Born on 18 April 1924 and educated at St. Edward's School, Oxford he served during World War Two with the RNVR. When peace came he studied at Peterhouse, Cambridge[2] and Wells Theological College before being ordained priest in 1951. He began his career with curacies at Hillingdon and Tiverton[3] before incumbencies at Strood and Harpenden. in 1979 he ascended to the Episcopate, a post he held for 8 years. A man of strong convictions[4]he retired in 1987, becoming an Assistant Bishop within the Bath and Wells Diocese.
