John Sansom

John Sansom was a local Cornish architect, responsible for a number of buildings in Liskeard.

Born in 1840 Sansom became apprenticed to Henry Rice who sent him to London for experience. Sansom eventually came back to Liskeard to manage the office of Coad and Rice and then to become Principal in his own right. He designed a number of buildings including The Constitutional Club in Market Street in 1910 and new premises for the Liberal Club in Barras Street in 1912 other shops and houses in Liskeard including a number of the terraces along Station Road and the new tower to St Martin’s church in 1901.
