He was a canon of Lincoln and St. Paul's before and provost of Wells before becoming Lord High Treasurer from 1310 to 1311. He was acting treasurer from 1312 to 1314.[1] He later became Lord Chancellor on September 26, 1314. He held that office until June 11, 1318.[2]
He was once more Lord High Treasurer in November of 1318 and held the office until his death.[1]
He was elected to the see of Winchester about July 27, 1316 and consecrated on October 31, 1316. He died on November 2, 1319.[3]
