- He is not to be confused with John Marshall Hamilton (1847-1905) Governor of Illinois.
John M. Hamilton (1855 – 1916) was a Democratic Member of the U.S. House of Representatives for West Virginias 4th District, and was a member of the 62nd congress from 1911 to 1913. He was a member of the Virginia State Legislature in 1887.
