John Kelly (admiral)

Admiral of the Fleet Sir John Kelly GCB, KCVO (1871–1936) was a Royal Navy officer known for his leadership during the Invergordon Mutiny and World War I

He joined the navy in 1883 serving on the Australian Station and qualifying in gunnery. During the first world war, he served in the Mediterranean commanding cruisers. He was later promoted Commander in Chief Portsmouth and commanded the Home Fleet.

Kelly was promoted to admiral of the fleet for one day before he retired.
