John Heaton hails from Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, where he was born on September 20, 1980. His friend Andrew Post was a starting figure who helped him on his way to superstardom. He started riding BMX in Woodstock in 1995 at age fourteen, because he, quote, "Liked the way the bikes looked. I didn't really know anything about it. I wanted one because they looked good and I started doing tricks from there." John toddled on streets and shared a bike with his friend Mike Judge for quite a while, finally starting to hit up a Toronto skatepark a couple of years later. He turned into something of a jump box monkey there, eventually learning to ride trannies throughout the rest of the park. John first learned backflips into water, then foam at Woodward. Now he's widely regarded as a "flip-kid" par excellence. But, make no mistake about it, John has more up his sleeves than that. He actually rides street a lot more than most realize.
After meeting etnies Michigan sales rep Scott Towne, John started getting flowed shoes from former etnies BMX Team Manager Nate Hanson. Life has been very kind to John in the past couple of years, bestowing upon him the realization of several longtime dreams: getting the phone call from Nate Wessel to go on Road Fools, turning pro and getting a signature model bike from MacNeil, as well as full-sponsorship from etnies. These accomplishments rate as John's career highlights, along with winning the Primo La Rev, and have opened a lot of doors for him.
John cites etnies teammate Joe Rich as his single biggest influence and favorite rider, along with other faves Jay Miron and Ruben Alcantara, and he likes Chenga World more than any other park. John usually spends his off-bike hours playing lots of hockey, occasionally fighting, hanging out with his girlfriend and just chilling. If your glasses or contacts tend to get fogged, you may want to wipe 'em off really soon, or else you might miss a fleeting moment of John heatin' up his surroundings with a hot batch of two-wheeled frenzy.
