John Daugman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John Daugman is a physicist and computer-vision expert at the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory. He is best known for his pioneering work in biometric identification, in particular the development of the Gabor wavelet based iris recognition algorithm that is (as of 2006) the basis of all commercially available iris recognition systems.
He is the inventor of the "Daug", a humorous unit which measures "one bit of information per inch" and is generally used to rate the usefulness of thick conference proceedings.[citation needed]
