John Daniel Heal

John Daniel Heal (1825–1908) was Mayor of Brisbane, Australia, in 1879. After his arrival in Brisbane from England in 1856 he worked at his trade as a stone mason and subsequently purchased the Prince Consort Hotel and became a major contractor and prominent businessman. He was very involved in community affairs and was a great advocate for the progress of Fortitude Valley. In 1870 he was elected to the Brisbane Council as Alderman for the Fortitude Valley Ward. He served his electorate in this role from 1870 to 1873 and 1875 to 1894.
