John David Carlson, Jr. (born May 12, 1984, in Litchfield, Minnesota) is a Tight end for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League. He played collegiately for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Carlson graduated from Litchfield High School in south-central Minnesota. As a football player, he was all-state Minnesota in his Senior year. He played in the 2003 U.S. Army All-American Bowl alongside fellow Notre Dame Fighting Irish players Brady Quinn, Ryan Harris, and Tom Zbikowski. As a basketball player, Carlson was voted to the preseason McDonald's All-American list. Carlson was also an all-state tennis player.

John Carlson played college football at Notre Dame. He was a four year starter at tight end. In his senior year, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish posted a dismal 3-9 record, but Carlson remained an important key to Notre Dame`s offense. Carlson was the first Fighting Irish player to be selected in the 2008 NFL Draft. (2nd round: 7th pick. 38th pick overall.)
