John Bonaguro

John Bonaguro, PhD has been Professor of Health Education and Dean of the College of Health and Human Services of Western Kentucky University since August of 2003. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in health education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He earned his doctorate in health education from the University of Oregon in 1978.

He began his professional career as director of the Drug-Free Rockford Community Partnership in Rockford, Illinois. He was associate professor of health education at Ohio University, where he was a leader in development of the social marketing approach to health education and health promotion. He moved to Ithaca College in 1993 as Professor of School Health Services and Assistant Dean of the School of Health Science and Human Performance. He subsequently served as chairman for the Departments of Exercise and Sport Sciences and of Health Promotion and Physical Education, before becoming Dean of HS&HP in 2001.
