Johannes von Baysen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes von Baysen or Hans von Baysen (Polish: Jan Bażeński; ca. 1380 – 9 November 1459) was a Prussian knight and statesman.

The Baysen family was part of the Flemming family which came in the 13th century from Lübeck or its vicinity. They named themselves after their possession, Basien near Wormditt in Ermland, which survived until 1945, in the possession of another family.

Baysen served the Teutonic Knights and their Grand Masters, among them Konrad von Erlichshausen and Ludwig von Erlichshausen.

Following the growing dissatisfaction among Prussians, Baysen joined the Prussian Confederation and led their uprising against the Knights. After the Thirteen Years' War, he was made governor of Royal Prussia. He died at Marienburg Castle.

  • Johannes appears in the game Legendary Warriors, called Hans to avoid confusion with Johannes Grant. His brother Gabriel also features, as well as his sister Georgina in the expansion pack (fictional). In the original game, Gabriel is depicted as the sturn leader of the prussian confederation, and Hans is portrayed as his silent and powerful twin brother. In the expansion pack, Gabriel remains unchanged, but Georgina is introduced, and she takes Hans place as Gabriels twin. Hans was redesigned for the expansion pack, in which he is portrayed as Gabriel and Georgina's younger brother, who is hotheaded but generally laid back and resembles a surfer. Gabriel wields a pair of minature crossbows, Georgina wields a violin, and Hans wields a shield.
