Joaquim Magalhães Mota

Joaquim Magalhães Mota (Santarém, 1935 - Lisbon, 26 September 2007) was a Portuguese politician. He was a member of the Liberal Wing (Ala Liberal), at the fascist National Assembly, during Marcelo Caetano's government, that came to an end in 1974. After the 25 April 1974, he was one of the three founders of the Popular Democratic Party (Partido Popular Demodrático), with Francisco Sá Carneiro and Francisco Pinto Balsemão. The party later changed its name to Social Democratic Party. He was Minister of Internal Affairs, in the I Provisional Government, lead by Adelino da Palma Carlos, from 15 May to 17 July 1974. From 1976 to 1978 was the general secretary of PSD. He latter left the party and was a member of the Independent Social Democratic Action and the Democratic Renewal Party.
