- Your userpage has been moved back to User:Jiuguangw, since a userpage must be under the same title as the username of the user him/herself (with User: at the beginning). Again, welcome to Wikipedia! Cheers, Mystytopia 23:27, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Welcome to WP:ROBO!
Hi, and welcome to WikiProject Robotics! Our goals are to standardize the structure and content of all Robotics articles, improve Wikipedia's coverage of these articles (hopefully propelling them to featured article status), and serve as the central resource for all discussions and information related to Robotics on Wikipedia.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The Robotics infobox is one way we hope to standardize our coverage of Robotics articles. All Robotics pages should have this infobox, and relevant fields should be filled in and sourced.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has a few expanding departments, which handle article quality assessment, member recruitment and project awareness and article improvement collaborations.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask one of the project participants or post a question on the talk page. We'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! —- Jameson L. Tai talk ♦ contribs 23:49, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
WikiProject Systems
Thanks for joining the Wikipedia:WikiProject Systems. We can certainly use all the help we can get, especially from students in particular fields like you. If you have some questions please let me know.
WikiProjects are created to improve the quality of articles and I like to give relatively new users also some tips and hints and explain some customs. One custom is not to clear your User:talk page but to copy them into an archive. I created such an archive on your talk page and have added the first items you just deleted.
If you start a draft article on your user space, you can start the following separate pages:
- User:Jiuguang Wang/State space systems
- User:Jiuguang Wang/Nonlinear Control
And thanks for starting to add some WikiProject Systems templates on the control theory articles. Good luck. -- Mdd (talk) 14:53, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Category of Control systems theorists
Hi, thanks for your work on the list of People in systems and control. I noticed you tagged quite a lot of those persons with the WikiProject Systems - tag. I wonder if you also thought of creating a Category for those people. Something of a Category:Control systems theorists are maybe an other name. -- Mdd (talk) 21:29, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- That's a very good idea - I was looking at Category:Artificial intelligence researchers and Category:Roboticists and thought of the same thing.
- Done. Category:Control theorists, just to keep the consistency with others in Category:Systems scientists.

- I caught two people without defaultsort...thanks for pointing that out! Jiuguang Wang (talk) 22:17, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

- Sorry. I don't understand if you understand. All categories have to be sorted from A to Z. See for example my move here!? -- Mdd (talk) 22:22, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, I see - you are right, they were out of order. Fixed now. Thanks! Jiuguang Wang (talk) 23:02, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Image:Yu-Chi Ho.jpg
Hi. I have taken a second look at the information you at the image you uploaded. I have to tell you that these things are complicated, and the guys checking these images don't also always know what the exact rules are. they always seems to come up with something new.
As far as I know in this particulair case on Wikipedia it seems ok. But if somebody tags it again, for what reason, you have to contact that person and ask what kind of information he further needs.
I also heard that on Wikicommons in this particulair case, you need a written email from Yu-Chi Ho that he "releases this picture into the public domain". Or he gives you permission to releases this picture into the public domain. A copy of this email should be send to an administrator, who will keep these emails in a closed archive. I don't know the exact details because I haven't done it myselve yet. I you find out, let me know.
It is much easier if you yourselve take a nice new picture of him on a sunny day, and upload and release the image yourselve. -- Mdd (talk) 20:30, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well, hopefully, by this time next year, I'll be taking a nice walk in Harvard Square and play the "spot-a-control-theorist" game. Thanks, Marcel! Jiuguang Wang (talk) 20:37, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
WikiProject Systems/Member userbox
Hi, I updated the WikiProject Systems/Member userbox. Now I hope it will fitt in the other boxes.
And two other point:
- Nice work on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Systems/Announcements bye the way. If you find some more faults on the WikiProject Systems page or Portal:Systems science please let me know.
- A nice next step is to add one or two control scientists to the list of Portal:Systems science/Systems scientist.
Just an idea. Good luck. -- Mdd (talk) 22:11, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I'm leaning towards Rudolf E. Kalman and Richard E. Bellman, but those articles should really be expanded to the quality of the existing systems scientist pages.I've emailed the National Academy of Engineering for the photograph of Kalman, but so far have not received a reply. Jiuguang Wang (talk) 23:10, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
-
- I took a look at both article and did some wikification, and expanded the Richard E. Bellman the easy way. I also uploaded a "fair use image" to the Richard E. Bellman article (This is only acceptated in Wikipedia when the person is dead, which cannot be used in an other place). This will give you a clear start. If you need a picture of Rudolf E. Kalman you could try e-mail him directly. Good luck. -- Mdd (talk) 00:01, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Richard E. Bellman Control Heritage Award
Hi. I merged the list of award winners into the Richard E. Bellman Control Heritage Award article. There seems no reason to splitthose two in separate articles. -- Mdd (talk) 23:01, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- I separated the two articles because I saw separate pages for IEEE Medal of Honor and List of IEEE Medal of Honor recipients - but yes, I think one page is enough.Jiuguang Wang (talk) 23:05, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
re: List of IEEE Medal of Honor recipients
I agree with merging them. It used to all part of IEEE Medal of Honor and then someone split the list out. I never understood the point of splitting it in the first place as the main article is pretty small and the list doesn't make it overly long. -- JLaTondre (talk) 00:01, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- I proposed the merge. Could you give a short respond Talk:IEEE Medal of Honor. -- Mdd (talk) 00:18, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

- Sure. Have a safe trip! Jiuguang Wang (talk) 14:45, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Infobox
What do you think of using the "Infobox Person" {{Infobox Person | name = | image = | image_size = | caption = | birth_name = | birth_date = {{Birth date|1911|10|20}} | birth_place = | death_date = {{Death date and age|1940|12|23|1911|10|20}} | death_place = | death_cause = | resting_place = | resting_place_coordinates = | residence = | nationality = | other_names = | known_for = | education = | employer = | occupation = | title = | salary = | networth = | height = | weight = | term = | predecessor = | successor = | party = | boards = | religion = | spouse = | partner = | children = | parents = | relatives = | signature = | website = | footnotes = }} instead of Infobox Scientist for the articles? Person was designed with fields to cover all fields of biography, and the scientist one hasn't been updated in a while, you still can't scale photos in it, so if they are low res, you get aliasing effects and pixilation. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 19:52, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think Template:Infobox Person is a bit too general for my use - I tend to focus on articles for scientists and engineers, and half of the parameters for Template:Infobox Person do not really apply. I have noticed the scaling issue, and I'm very interested in updating Template:Infobox scientist. But thanks - I'll be in touch. Jiuguang Wang (talk) 20:34, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- OK - now I'm slightly confused - I edited Template:Infobox scientist to have identical image fields as Template:Infobox Person, and I don't see any difference - I think the current setup scales images with respect to the size of the infobox, although occasionally, this is larger than the original. Jiuguang Wang (talk) 20:58, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
There is also {{Infobox Engineer. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 06:49, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks! I didn't know there was an infobox for engineers. Jiuguang Wang (talk) 00:06, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Marconi talks about the first radio contact.
You might want to add the mp3 file i made from an ancient LP with marconi's voice anouncing his first radio contact in this page about marconi. The file could be found here: www.stolpje.nl/~cees/marconi/marconi.mp3
Sincerely yours Cees Keyer 08:09, 26 April 2008 (UTC) cees@ieee.org
- Hi Cees - thanks for your suggestion. Before I add the clip to Guglielmo Marconi, can you give me more information on the recording (the source, for example)? --Jiuguang Wang (talk) 21:28, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Riseman
It wasn't "lack of notability", it was "notability not asserted" - i.e., the article didn't say anything at all about why the article should exist.
It'll be restored within 5 minutes of the timestamp on this message; please add the relevant material as soon as you are able. DS (talk) 17:00, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Calculus of screws
As an expert in robotics I believe you could help verify or correct an issue connected to applications of linear algebra. Recently I contributed to Screw theory#Calculus of screws a digest of what I understood from the literature by A.T. Yang and others. I have not been able to verify that a screw motion can be accomplished in the way described by Yang. The ASME has stood behind this notion over the decades, yet it has not been picked up in abstract "mathematical publications". I would appreciate any light you can shed on this gap between engineering and mathematical literature.Rgdboer (talk) 18:07, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Rgdboer - my expertise in robotics is mainly centered around perception, autonomy, and control. The materials in screw theory focus more on mechanics and hence outside of my research area. I'd be happy to look into it, but at the moment, I'm afraid I don't have any insights to offer. --Jiuguang Wang (talk) 19:13, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you. Just had to drop you a line when I saw your contribution to G. W. Pierce and noticed the robotics interest. The situation is a long-standing one; overlap of specialties and University departments on WP challenges us to square up what has been left incongruent.Rgdboer (talk) 20:52, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
WikiProject Systems Assessment
Hi, I just finished assessing all (about a 100) control theory articles, you tagged with the wikiproject systems. Thanks again for bringing them to the WikiProject and my attention. -- Mdd (talk) 22:31, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, Marcel! I know I've been the "king of stubs" recently, but I promise that I intend to start writing quality materials soon. --Jiuguang Wang (talk) 23:32, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Dov Frohman-Bentchkowsky
I have nominated Dov Frohman-Bentchkowsky, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dov Frohman-Bentchkowsky. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Chzz ► 01:30, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
This AfD
May seem strange to you that this article, of the bunch you created, should be the one nominated for deletion. I changed your article to a redirect to Dov Frohman. You might search on a few variations of names for these engineers before you start new articles, try family names alone, although Wikipedia can be poorly organized in this way. I have no idea how User:Chzz came to the conclusion that Dov Frohman did not "satisfy Wikipedia's creteria for inclusion," because Chzz doesn't say anything on the AfD about this, and here, he/she only discusses his/her feelings about the issue. I don't see any reason Frohman wouldn't be in an encyclopedia, so I can't help you in getting past that stumbling block of dealing with people's "feelings" about certain articles.
Still, good job adding stubs about substantive people, rather than minor television show characters to an encyclopedia. Do expect to have all sorts of them nominated for deletion simply because they're not cartoon characters. Try tagging the talk pages with WikiProject Engineering or something to get other in-the-know editors to help you with writing, referencing, and researching the articles. Good luck, though. --Blechnic (talk) 04:53, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for all your help - I plan to expand these articles later today, and hopefully no more deletions nominations will occur. And good catch on the redirect - I caught a few myself, but was unaware of the last name change. Thanks! --Jiuguang Wang (talk) 13:09, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
