Any clue as to why I am unable to edit this page? Is there a special trick to category pages? Brassratgirl 04:35, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Commonwealth spelling?

Why is this category Jewellery instead of Jewelry? Is there any particular justification for using British English over American for this category? It seems to me that since more than 2/3 of native English speakers are American, we should use American spelling unless there's a good reason not to (ie. the page for kilometre or any pages connected to a British English using nation). Does such a reason exist in this case? Is San Fransisco's diamond district not as cool as London's or something? -Carl 01:57, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

There's no Wikipedia standard, so we try to be accepting of all English spellings, with emphasis simply on consistency within articles. Wikipedia:Manual of Style#National varieties of English NickelShoe 23:00, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

That's all well and good, but isn't there going to be duplication of material with two categories due to different spellings. Also, someone who searches on "jewellery" may miss things that are in "jewelry" and vice versa. Is there a disambiguation page for this or a cross reference? I only looked at one topic, but I didn't notice that. Mea culpa if I missed it.Zlama 04:53, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
