The movie Heights is considered to be a 2004 movie, even if it was released in 2005.

Why is that? It would've been widely seen, reviewed, and made availabe to the public only in 2005. A lot of movies sit on the shelf for whatever reason. The year of release usually counts. JackO'Lantern 10:25, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
The studio responsible for the film, Merchant Ivory states that the movie is a 2004 movie. There is no contention that the movie was released in the US in 2005. It premeiered in 2004 at a film festival.
Well, the movie may well have been complete in 2004, but its release date is what would count financially, critically, etc. For example, Oscar nominations (and other critical groups) base their decisions specifically on a film's release date. Box Office mojo lists it under 2005 films [1] JackO'Lantern 20:32, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
