Was 51 years old and 32 years in the Army when Castro took over. Although he served under Batista, in 32 years he served under a lot of other Cuban Presidents. He was foremost a military man, true to his country, with no alliance to any particular President or government. Castro took him as an escape goat to show his might. He was married with 3 children. His wife and children fled to Canada in 1959 after Castro assassinated him.
