Jesse W. Smith, son of former North Melbourne player, Ross Smith, made his debut in 2005, however he would go on to miss all of 2006 with a bad ankle injury.
He returned in 2007. Smith's best game was against Essendon, Round 7 2007. He had 27 possessions and kicked a goal from 60m out. This performance made him a candidate for the Rising Star.
