User:Jerry/RFC on CSD's for userpages
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A user has tagged numerous user talk pages as {{db-spam}} or CSD#G1 with a note that the pages are unencyclopedic. Some of the pages are very short and provide some description of the commercial activities of the user in an offwiki venue. While I do not disagree that these pages include non-encyclopedic content, and ultimately might need to be modified, I am concerned with the process that the user is using. He does not leave a comment on the user's talk page asking them politely to remove the content, which I feel is a violation of WP:BITE. The recommended procedure in WP:USERPAGE is to put the page up for WP:MFD if the user does not voluntarily correct the page. The user I am in dispute with here cites numerous recent speedy deletions as precedent for his procedure. I do not buy the argument that everyone else is doing it so it must be okay. Each such deletion could be a special situation and would require significant effort and time to investigate. Also some administrators may process Category:Candidates for speedy deletion quickly and take the nomination on good faith, not realizing it is not appropriate. I acknowledge an exception to my recommendations for violations of WP:BLP, blatant vandalism, repeated spam or other aggregious material, but as a general policy interpretation, I feel that db-x templates should not be added to userspace pages, and when they are, it should be the rarer exception, not the rule.
