TOTE Tasmania is a registered Company, incorporated by the Government of Tasmania to administer the commercial aspects of Racing and Breeding in Tasmania. In 2006/07 TOTE Tasmania grew turnover by 20.4 per cent and new profit by 49.1 per cent [1]. Since its formation in 1999 (previously known as the TAB), TOTE Tasmania has actively contributed to the Tasmanian Racing Industry increasing total industry funding from $12.7 million to $17.9 million in 2005[2]. The industry now directly employs in excess of 3000[3]. Tasmanians with Racing events such as the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival and Inter-dominion attracting visitors national and internationally. TOTE Tasmania, is an active participant in the leisure and entertainment industry providing a range of wagering products across racing and sporting events under the retail brand of The TOTE. The TOTE has 131 [4] outlets across the state of Tasmania and resides in pubs, hotels and the like.

TOTE Tasmania operates a variety of totalisator and fixed odds wagering products under the brand of The TOTE. Together The TOTE’s operations are delivered through varies sales channels including retail, telephone and online. The TOTE is a member of the SuperTAB pool for pari-mutuel sales and utilises the national TAB Sportsbet product for its fixed odd sporting bets. The Company’s own Triwin fixed odds product is a major source of revenue for TOTE Tasmania and is anticipated to be licensed to other jurisdictions in the near future. TOTE Tasmania also provides Trackside (Tabcorp) a simulated racing game to complement The TOTE’s pari-mutuel and fixed odds wagering products. TOTE Tasmania manages the distribution of Sky Channel and ThoroughVisioN (TVN) in Tasmania [5].

TOTE Tasmania controls the Tattersall's Racecourse in Hobart and Tasman Park at Launceston [6]. TOTE Tasmania maintains and presents the thoroughbred, harness and greyhound tracks at each venue for race meetings to be conducted by tenant clubs [7].The Company is also responsible for the maintenance and development of grandstands and other buildings located on the leased racecourses [8]. TOTE Tasmania assists with the maintenance of facilities in Devonport [9]. where Greyhound and Harness racing is conducted at the Showgrounds and Thoroughbred racing at Spreyton Park and other buildings located on the leased racecourses. TOTE Tasmania also manages training centres at Brighton, Carrick, and at Longford.

TOTE Sport Radio
TOTE Tasmania operates a statewide network of radio stations under the brand of TOTE Sport Radio. TOTE Sport Radio provides coverage of racing from Australia and International venues, with a special emphasis on all codes of Tasmanian Racing [10]. TOTE Sport Radio’s core racing programs, are supported by a range of other programs which include the Big Sports Breakfast and The John Laws Morning Show [11], which is broadcast in Launceston and Northern Tasmania on 1008AM only. TOTE Sport Radio’s network of high power stations cover all the major populations centres [12]. around the state, including Hobart 1080AM, Launceston 1008AM, Burnie 97.7FM and Devonport 101.3FM (1). TOTE Sport Radio also operates a number of low power stations on the East and West Coast of Tasmania, which provide listeners with a direct satellite feed of Radio Sport 927 from Melbourne (1). TOTE Sport Radio can also be heard online [13].
Carnivals
The TOTE has worked to develop events that showcase the best of the State’s racing. The first showcase event designed by TOTE Tasmania, the AAMI Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival, has been the forerunner for the development of additional major Tasmanian racing events across both the harness and greyhound codes.

The TOTE has a wide variety of bet types through many sports. In the three codes of racing which are thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing you would typically find win/place/eachway, quinella, exacta, trifecta, mystery trifecta, daily double, Consolation Double, quadrella, all-up and the triwin.[14] Other sports that are available to bet on include AFL Football, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Golf, Jockey Challenge, Motor Sport, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Soccer and Tennis. Throughout the last financial year, TOTE Tasmania customers were able to wager on racing products from South Africa, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Singapore, Sweden [15] and Dubai.
[edit] Twisted Tipping
Since 2007, TOTE Tasmania have provided a free AFL tipping competition to its members. Unlike other tipping competitions whereby tips are just head to head with a points margin, Twisted Tipping asks questions regarding topics such as the first score type, first team to 25 points or even the winning team. Each week an iPod Shuffle is given away to the tipper with the highest score from that round. The overall prizes at the conclusion of the competition include a Wii video game console, restored pinball machine, and a TOTE voucher.[16] Twisted Tipping has its own Facebook[17] fan page where tippers can log in and discuss latest games or controversial football issues.
[edit] Betfair and TOTE Tasmania
TOTE Tasmania and Betfair have entered an agency deal whereby Betfair will distribute TOTE's betting products to their existing global customer base of over 1.1 million punters.[18] From the end of May 2008, Betfair customers will have access and be able to bet with the TOTE's racing products via a web link. This is anticipated to contribute over $10 million per year back into the Tasmanian racing industry. [19] Betfair will receive a portion of the net revenue for acting as The TOTE's agent.[20]
