Jerry Dowling

Jerry Dowling is an American cartoonist who has also worked in newspaper illustration. He received the National Cartoonist Society Newspaper Illustration Award for 1994 for his work.
Dowling worked for the Cincinnati Enquirer from the late 1960s to 1994. He continues to do sports cartoons for the Cincinnati alternative weekly CityBeat, as of 2006. He is well-known for his usage of beavers to portray sports personalities.
Comment: He never drew a sports personality or anyone else as a beaver. Dowling often puts a little rodent(called Dirty Rat)at the bottom of his cartoons. The rodent always has something to say. It is obvious that the ill-informed person who wrote the beaver nonsense has a large rodent fixation. Dowling was at one time the official cartoonist of the dearly departed Marge Schott. His catoons of Marge smoking were something to behold. One of my favorites was of her and Eric Davis from 1991 titled 'Driving Mr. Davis." He drew several very interesting cartoons of Marge's(children)dogs decorating the astro-turf at Riverfrom Stadium.
