| Portion used |
This is a small image of the front cover of a picture sleeve for a vinyl audio music single. As such, it is not in competition for the actual product, which was an audio recording of the song. When originally sold, copies with plain white sleeves cost every bit as much as copies with picture sleeves; as such the packaging, while of value to a collector, was considered to have no monetary value to the creator of the image beyond identificational purposes. |
| Low resolution? |
350x350. The portion of the photograph depicting Ms. Rush is only 2/3 of the photo; as a photo of a product, which only contains a photo of the performer, it is unlikely to be diminishing the value of its use anywhere else. |
| Purpose of use |
Historical record of the release; as Rush's only major hit, this is likely the most widely distributed and most recognized photo of the performer; further, as the song in question was notably covered by Laura Branigan and Celine Dion, two other female brunettes, said photo serves to distinguish Rush, so far as she can be made out in this photo, from those other performers. Finally, it is an example of the personal and product image Rush and her people conceived for the recording's package look at that moment in time. |
| Replaceable? |
Clearly this is a photo of a used copy of the record sleeve, and not the actual promotional photo; any alternative but a trade ad for the release would be less appropriate to illustrate said single. |
