Talk:Jello Biafra
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Jello's Name
Someone told me that Jello's name started a controversy over whether you can use a trademarked name as your own. Is it true or an urban myth? I would like to see a section about it, if it is true.
[edit] Dead :\ ?
According to the article, Jello Biafra died January 27th, 2007. However, on the homepage of Alternative Tentactles, he's quoted saying 'he checked himeself for bullet holes and didn't find any'. Therefore, I suspect him being very much alive.

[edit] Pigface
Jello was in Pigface! WHere is Pigface? I don't see them mentioned once on his page and I'd really like to know if he was ever on an album and which one. You can't forget Pigface! FooK it Up! -- 67.176.167.84
- It's in his discography article. -- LGagnon 02:24, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Coldcut
LGagon wants to know if this is a real album. Yes, Colcut is a real band, who did put out an album with Biafra doing spoken word on it. The name of the album is 'Let Us Play'. So perhaps it requires re-catagorization, rather than removal. Rsm99833 17:39, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- The problem is, neither the Coldcut article nor the AMG entry for them mentions this album. Secondly, if Biafra was only on one track, then this should be in the "Guest appearances" section of the discography article, not the "Collaborations" section, which is meant for albums on which he was on every track. Recategorization would be good, but I'd like to see proof that this album actually exists first. -- LGagnon 19:04, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- I can assure you, it does exists. Got it from Biafra himself. But that really doesn't count here. So.... http://www.ninjatune.net/ninja/release.php?id=134 You can listen to the track in question there. Rsm99833 23:28, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

-
- I'm pretty sure I have something from Coldcut, and that album you list has two credits for Biafra for vocals, but it really doesn't read as a 'collaboration' so much as an 'appearance'. Jello w/ The Melvins or w/ Nomeansno would be a collaboration, providing vocals for Coldcut or Revolting Cocks or Ministry is a guest spot.... -- Xinit 23:38, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
-
That's as I thought; I'm adding this to the discography article under "Guest appearances", which should settle this argument. -- LGagnon 23:50, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
So what's going on with the Coldcut addition? There's no guest appearances spot here, which is kind of silly. Why not add the work he's done with Coldcut? "Every Home A Prison" is a great piece of work, and shows Jello's range in terms of people he's worked with. --Khal 14:51, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] SubGenii?
Can we get some proof that he belongs in that category? -- LGagnon 23:21, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Looks like someone is carpetting. They included Bill Hicks as well. Do you have the time or tools for a mass RV? Rsm99833 23:24, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
While editing pages, I included the names of various people who I had seen cited as SubGenii. My proof comes from the creator of the Church of the SubGenius, Rev. Ivan Stang, who told me that Jello was a member. As for Bill Hicks, he evidently died the same day he received his membership pack, so he probably doesn't count. As for the rest, again my proof consists of what Stang told me. Maybe he was lying, although I doubt this. In addition, I am new to editing pages and so I ask your forgiveness if my inexperience makes me come across as a jerk. I certainly welcome any help.AlexMondo 07:53, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Your edits count as original research, which goes against Wikipedia's standards. To include him as a SubGenii, you'd have to cite an outside source that we can look up. Stang may be somewhat reliable, but he can't be used as a source because one can not simply look up him like you could a website or book. -- LGagnon 14:02, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Missing content
This article is missing stuff such as Jello being assaulted and having his legs smashed after a show once, the whole trial/dispute thing.. ect. -- 216.232.219.24
- That's all in there; try reading a bit more carefully. -- LGagnon 04:50, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] reason for band name
I tried to insert this "The name, despite popular belief, was not meant to insult the assassinated Kennedy brothers, but to remind people that the American dream was killed." in the article, taken from the Dead Kennedys article but the page was not displaying correctly after I've edited it, perhaps something to do with Google toolbar. I've reverted my edit, so at least it looks normal now.Smiloid 01:18, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- It's because you did a poor job of adding a citation. You need to start it with . Also, you should add a full citation (including the page number), not just the author's name. -- LGagnon 01:53, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Proving the unprovable
Ray, you can not prove the non-existence of proof. You made no citation to proof that statement, and you can't make one, because you won't be able to find a reliable source that says "Jello didn't cash the checks". Wikipedia is based on verifiable facts; please don't add libelous things that can't be verified. -- LGagnon 02:16, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Time to archive?
Anyone else think it's time to archive the discussion area? It's getting pretty crowded here. Rsm99833 14:31, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Stage name
What was the basis for removing the following: "His stage name is a combination of the brand name Jell-O and the name of the short lived country of Biafra which attempted to secede from Nigeria in 1966. After four years of fighting and horrific starvation, Nigeria regained control of the nascent Biafran state. Jello Biafra created his name as an ironic combination of a nutritionally poor mass-produced food product and mass starvation. He said he likes how two ideas clash in people's minds." - Jmabel | Talk 05:05, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Legal Notice and Warning
I'm amazed by the amount of misinformation in this entry. I have firsthand documentary evidence--which I refuse to disclose as a matter of attorney-client privilege--that directly contradicts and disproves the scandalous and libelous assertions against Paul Boucher's erstwhile wife, Theresa Soder. She most certainly did not "run off" with Frank discussion, and I will remind the writer of the main Wiki entry that his/her identity is dicoverable from the Web host, and that any and all negligently ill-researched comments are potentially actionable. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.160.210.203 (talk • contribs) 21 November 2006.
- Please see Wikipedia:No legal threats. If you have an actual legal concern, please contact Wikipedia's parent organisation, the Wikimedia Foundation. Here is a link to their website. An article talk page is not the appropriate place to raise the issue. -- Jmabel | Talk 20:45, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- I saw this article on the BLP Noticeboard. I removed the specific remark mentioned above, but this article is chock full of original research and unsourced statements. It needs a good cleanup. Crockspot 05:25, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
- Was that Jello's representation?
- I wonder about the validity of this person claiming to be a legal representative protecting Theresa Soder's reputation, if he/she can't even get Jello's real name right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.161.2.175 (talk) 07:03, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] A mess
At present the article is a mess - sections are too long, and digress. That mayor thing needs to be moved to later in the article, as do the arguments with former bandmates. -- Beardo 10:03, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
it seems to me that stuff is in chronological order, so if you move the mayor paragraph, the section should be renamed to "Dead Kennedys" without the "Early Years". i'd be fine with that, just pointing it out. Murderbike 21:30, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jewish?
I've heard these claims before, but I believe there is no proof to them. The only websites that support this are either Wiki-mirrors or Nazi-sets who claim everyone famous is Jewish (Robin Williams, Martin Sheen, Engels, Winston Churchill, etc.) I'm removing it until someone gives some solid evidence for this.
- I've always wondered why someone's ethnic/religious background would even matter...
- Why shouldn't it matter? Are you suggesting Jewish people should have to hide their ethnicity? Geraldcohen (talk) 16:22, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Green Party
Putting Biafra in the Category of Green Party politicians doesn't seem right. he was only in the running for a nomination, to my knowledge he's never been elected to any office, so isn't a politician, right? Murderbike 22:17, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- I was under the impression that he didn't actively seek the nomination, rather that Greens nominated, and that this had more to do with opposition to electoral politics in general rather than actually putting a nominee in office. (Based on vague recollections of an NPR report) -- Gyrofrog (talk) 22:29, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Dead Keneallys
Is it true that Eric originally called the band the dead keneallys but changed the name to avoid offence to the family http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brendan_Kenneally
- Completely bogus. Zotdragon 16:42, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Possible cry for help for Jello Biafra?
There's a blog about a person called Occupant. His bio says Occupant is one of his stage names. If this is what's going on with him, someone needs to help.
http://lady-monster.livejournal.com/#entry_3497
Rampage/The Blame Game Apr. 18th, 2007 | 10:44 am mood: worried
Occupant loves to sing a little song to himself, but loud enough for me to hear, "Everything wrong, nothing goes right, the murderers are out to kill me, kill, kill, kill, must kill the murderers." He didn't sing this like what you hear on the records, he sang it in a little tiny high pitched squealy voice, like he was a baby. Yes, it was really fucking creepy and scared me to death. If I told a therapist about it, they would have had to report him to the authorities. He spoke of his desires to do physical harm on others all the time to anyone who would listen. One of his friends actually filled out an affidavit to be sure they wouldn't be named an accomplice should he go on a rampage. Once we were backstage at the Fillmore after Henry Rollins performed. Henry was trying to get away from him and Occupant started crying about the lawsuit, telling Henry he wanted to kill them. I couldn't look Henry in the eyes because when I did, I knew my eyes were full of fear, sadness and embarrassment. I wanted to run away or at least have Henry tell him to go get some help. He always said he would kill himself after he killed the others. At one point, we made plans about what I would do in case he did kill himself. This happened on the night that he made an attempt. I was sitting near him while he was on the phone with an old friend. I couldn't see what he was doing, I just heard him yell out in pain. I looked and saw that he had a pair of scissors in one hand and blood running down his arm. He had run the blades down his left arm and made several deep cuts. I started screaming and then he hung up the phone. I was chasing him around his bedroom trying to make him let me help him. He didn't want any help, he wanted to die. Finally, he lays down on the bed, holding his arm, and holding me, both of us crying and let's me bind it with a towel. He didn't want to go get stitches though. I called up his friends when I went to work in the morning and had them stop by the house for a suicide watch, to make sure he was going to make it through the day. I came home from work every day, stopping at the front door before I put my key in the lock wondering what I was going to find. Was I going to find a dead body? Where was the cat going to be? What else was going to be destroyed? I checked the local news online while at work, wondering if I was going to read about him going to the East Bay and mowing folks down. He had weapons in the car should he run into them at a concert. Once when we went to a bar and one of his enemies was there, I hurried up and turned around and got him the hell out of there. I didn't want to take any chances. He was totally ready to go postal - except for the gun. He didn't own one. He was also really scared to do anything. He did not want to go to prison. He did not want to give up his home, his records or his kittie. He said if did lose his house or records that he would go on a rampage. Yes, he talked about this all the time. Usually when he wasn't able to fall asleep, he would repeat his mantra over and over again, loud enough for me to hear, keeping me awake, then I wouldn't be able to sleep - too scared and upset. The words to the song would change a bit to, "Not allowed to sleep, the murderers are killing my sleep, kill kill kill, must kill the murderers." He has regular bouts of insomnia and sometimes he would have to take a tranquilizer. He called this "a kill pill", and would blame "the murderers" for making him have to take a kill pill. All of this would be said in his high-pitched baby voice. You couldn't talk any reason to him. He would just keep going on about how they were to blame, that anything that went wrong in his life, they were to blame. He likes blaming people, making others responsible for anything that goes wrong in his life. He takes no responsibility, no accountability for his actions or role. He blamed me all the time for things that went wrong. Placing blame like that is a form of violence in itself. He is a verbally violent person. One day he may actually go on a rampage. He continues to talk about it. I ran into him in January where he mentioned the use of one of his songs in Grindhouse, and how upset he was about it. He mentioned murder again.—Preceding unsigned comment added by {} (talk • contribs)

[edit] Rock Cock
Apparently Cynthia P-Caster owns a plaster cast of Jello's penis - 1 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.16.107.39 (talk) 00:12, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- True. He mentioned it at a spoken word gig I attended. I think it also came up in a Nardwuar interview. --Grimboy (talk) 22:08, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Schaffer the Darklord
Should we mention the song "My Dinner With Jello" by nerdcore rapper Schaffer the Darklord?
