Jean Marie River (Slavey language: Tthedzehk'edeli "water flowing over clay") is a "Designated Authority"[5] in the Dehcho Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada. The community is located on the Jean Marie River where it joins the Mackenzie River. The community has a small airport, Jean Marie River Airport, and is accessible by charter aircraft throughout the year.[6] According to the NWT Bureau of Statistics the community has an all-weather road from the Mackenzie Highway[7] but according to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories the community is only connected to the highway in the winter.[6]

As of the 2006 Census the population was 81, the majority of which were First Nations.[2][8] The main languages in the community are South Slavey and English[6]

Royal Canadian Mounted Police services are provided through Fort Simpson and there is neither a hospital or a health centre but a health staion, the "Jean Marie Health Cabin", is located in Jean Marie River. There is a single grocery store, along with accommodations and a visitors center. Education is provided through the "Louie Norwegian School" and provdes education up to Grade 10.[7][9]

The Dene of the community are represented by the Jean Marie River First Nation and belong to the Dehcho First Nations.[10][11]
