If you're reading this, thank you for addressing my question! I was reading the entry for Italian rapper Caparezza and noticed that it was a little scarce, so I looked up the Italian-language version which, needless to say, had much more information.
What's the policy on translating all or part of a foreign-language wikipedia article and merging any missing/relevant information into the existing English-language page? I am basically assuming that as long as I make sure I leave the original citations attached to the translated info, I can take a fairly liberal approach. Is this correct? It seems like an open policy on this would only benefit the volume of available information, but I couldn't find anything on it in the help pages and I definitely don't want to inadvertently plagiarize when my only intention would be to help. If you know anything about this, please feel free to leave a response at your leisure and I will come back and check it out at some point. Thanks a lot for your help!
- All Wikipedia articles are licensed under the GFDL, so you are indeed free (and welcome!) to translate them. As for leaving in the already included sources: Generally, English-speaking sources are preferred, so if you could come up with some and replace any Italian-speaking ones, that would be ideal. See also Wp:translate#Translation_on_Wikipedia:_general_information, Wikipedia:Copyrights and WP:GFDL. — aldebaer 07:11, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
