Jathedar Ujagar Singh Sekhwan
former president of Shiromani Akali Dal.
He was born in 1924 at sekhwan village of gurdaspur distt, Punjab. He belonged to a punjab based Political party Shiromani Akali Dal. Mata tej Kaur was his spouce. Late Jathedar Ujagar Singh Sekhwan former MLA (1924-1990) was a social reformer and a veteran politician, with major interest in the State of Punjab.[1] He remained acting president of the Shiromani Akali Dal during the time of emmergency in india.Jathedar Sekhwan entered politics in 1938 at an early age.He was first elected to Vidhan Sabha in 1977.[1] He remained MLA from kahnuwan constituency for 2 consective terms.
He has three children, one son and two daughters. His son, Sewa Singh Sekhwan,[2] is presently a Member of SGPC, a former cabinet minister of punjab and member of political affairs commitee of shiromani akali dal.
