Early life and career . . .

Stan was born in Melbourne, Australia to Joe Stan, a Government Chaufeur, and Barbara Stan, a book keeper. Stan’s father was born in Warsaw, Poland while his mother is of English decent (his maternal grandparents emigrated from England). Stan lived with his father and mother until he was 13 years old. When Stan’s parents divorced, his mother took him, and his older brothers with her to a new home in Dandenong, a suburb of Melbourne. Stan attended Dandenong Primary School in his younger Primary years and the Dandenong High School in his teenage Secondary years, both in the outer Melbourne suburb of Dandenong.

As a child, Stan aspired to be a singer. His musical influences included artist’s such as Neil Diamond and George Michael. In his lter teenage years, artist’s such as Rick Springfield and Richard Marx took precedent. He also cites the musical The Sound of Music as an early inspiration for singing and performing. As a child, he was known locally as "the shy boy with the big voice", singing in local talent shows and competitions.
