Talk:Jason Kay
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Copyvio
Uh I, the first part of this is on the Jamiroquai website, doesn't wikipedia not allow to not use copyrighted work? Well if no-one replies with a GOOD answer, within 1 week, I'm taking the bits from the website off. (unsigned comment)
[edit] Neutrality?
This article couldn't be any more biased! Just look at how it's written, it's less informative and more 'jay kay is amazing!' This shouldn't be a place for fans to talk about how great their favourite artist is, it's an encylopaedia!
but wait! doesn't jamiroquai roxor your soxors? like, omigod! :P
Oh f*cking jesus, will somebody PLEASE delete the blatant 'fandalism' on this page?!
Would anyone object to me deleting the entire article and re-writing it?
Please do, this is an encyclopedia, not a fansite. (sigh) ProhibitOnions 14:38, August 15, 2005 (UTC)
- No, this hasn't been written by a fan - rather, it's been copied from some commercial source (the official band website it seems).--Deadworm222 19:27, September 9, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] I am tagging this page for cleanup and neutrality
Problems: neutrality, possible copyright violation (I cannot verify this), and (extremely) poorly written. IR Mongoose 11:32, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
- I think this is now NPOV - agree? Still not brilliantly written, but I can't be bothered. On a point below, I am aware of Kay repeatedly being referred to as "The Twat In The Hat", but it's not worth including without a source. Dancarney 10:34, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Twenty Billion Albums
Typo or hyperbole?
- I believe Jason Kay only ever released eight albums as part of Jamiroquai (spelling?), and I doubt anyone could physically release 20,000,000,000 albums, so I think it is hyperbole. How can you mistype to such a large extent?
It says twenty million, not billion. And its referring to units sold. Learn to read.
Dispite the fact that I am a fan of the group, (which just so happens to be part of the reason I looked up this page in the first place) I believe that It needs to be rewritten with more acurate details. The part of the article reguarding Jason Kays personal history is too summarized, too general. I can't really take much from it.
I agree: this isn't the article for Jamiroquai, it's the article for Jay Kay. (I only came here to see if that was his real name. I honestly can't believe it is.) As for 20,000,000 units, I don't see a reference for that figure, but it's not suprising. Jamiroquai albums frequently go multiple platinum. I know in Australia (my own country) A Funk Odyssey went 3xP at least.
"Kay is well known for many things, including his love of cars. He has a large collection of sport cars, including Ferrari, Lamborghini, BMW, Mercedes, and Aston Martin. This love of motors was expressed with the release of the album "Travelling without Moving", where the cover featured an adaptation of the "Buffalo Man" logo and the Ferrari crest."
this is irrelavant.
[edit] The Twat In The Hat
Anyone else remember Jay Kay being referred to in that respect? --Smallbone10 02:23, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
I recall hearing him referred to as "The Prat In The Hat" when I lived in NZ, probably because "Twat" didn't rhyme (using NZ pronounciation). But yeah, I remember hearing Radio DJs use the term jokingly to refer to him... I'm glad someone else remembers, because I thought I might have been mis-remembering it otherwise! --Commander Zulu 11:49, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Um... No mention of his hats?
You know, Jay Kay is seen wearing a hat, or at least some sort of headgear, almost every time he is seen in the media. (This is especially true in the music videos that he appears in.) So, why is there no mention of that yet in the article? I would love to add that if I could say more than just, "Jay Kay wears a hat almost every time he is seen in the media".
Thanks! ~~ Wakipudeo ~~
[edit] Wanker
So let me get this right, he campaigns for Greenpeace and FOTE, yet he drives around in a fleet of "supercars". What do they do, 9mpg? What a fucking hypocrite. 82.163.180.141 00:31, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- Most of the supercars he owns run on super unleaded, and as such, are actually cleaner than normal cars. Get your facts straight. 82.32.50.164 13:57, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- They may "actually" be "cleaner", but they consume a hell of a lot more fuel per mile don't they...so it's like saying that "Alcho pops have less alcohol in them, so they don't get you drunk...", No? They do if you drink enough of them. Get your facts straight.

- Perhaps he's offsetting his carbon emissions. ;) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.204.119.67 (talk) 21:19, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

- How about adding a "Controversy" section to describe this situation? Netrat_msk (talk) 11:24, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
If Jay has about what 15 cars, he can't possibly be driving all of them at the same time. While they probably do get poor mpg, he's only using one and keeping 14 off the streets, so I'd say his 'fleet' kind of balances itself out.
[edit] Quitting Music
I am wondering if this is accurate, becuase I read on many webpages and newspaper articles that he's quitting, yet on the the 2 main websites, it says he has no intention of quitting. I'm wondering if anyone can clear this up, if it doesn't on it's own during the next couple of days. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.178.196.213 (talk) 01:25, 3 March 2007 (UTC).
-
- It was falsely reported that he was quitting music, he was quoted out of context by headline hunting journalists. I'd say his own website is authoritative. Best to leave it on the page so people don't try and add it again I think, as it clearly says it was later denied. camelworks 12:44, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Returning from holiday home in... Perthshire???
He was clocked doing 105mph on the A9, apparently near Dalnaspidal junction which is in Perthshire. However, his holiday home is a good 200 miles north of there, near Gairloch, I could be more specific, but because I don't already see the exact location of his house on the internet, I don't want to be the one that puts it there. I'm not a fan of his, but I entirely understand how he came to be driving at 105mph on the A9, he just had a bit more power than most and was unlucky enough to be seen by the police. [edit] Cleanup
This article is about Jay Kay only, not Jamiroquai. All of the recently added things which have just been copied from the Jamiroquai article aren't needed here. TomGreen 11:07, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- As far as I am concerned, Jay Kay is Jamiroquai and has always been. It then became a band when the instrument players became famous. But now that 50 billion members are no longer in the band that were famous its just Jay as a solo singer going by the Pseudonym Jamiroquai. He is a solo singer. As far as 1998 and above.(Pleasantview 05:19, 4 May 2007 (UTC)).
[edit] Jay Kay takes the JAMIROQUAI name
Ever since 1998 Jamiroquai was officially Jay Kay. Other members weren't notified and if I remember he is more notified as a Jamiroquai. He is the only one featured in recent music videos. If it were a band don't you think the whole band would be in music videos since 1998?(Pleasantview 05:14, 4 May 2007 (UTC)).
-
- Actually music videos does not prove anything, except his extreme narcissisms and ambition. Please note that some of the songs featured on 2001's A Funk Odyssey and 2006's Dynamite are co-written with other band members like Smith, Fyffe, Johnson and Harris (prooflink). But even without such input, Jamiqoquai would be considered a backup band for Jay rather than his stage name. Netrat_msk (talk) 11:38, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
imo being in music video is not exactly equal to being a member of a band and vice versa....
Fine by me the page is being redirected again.(Pleasantview 08:31, 7 May 2007 (UTC))
[edit] Obviously you must love the redirect
Why are we not discussing this? This is only making me want to redirect the page even more you know. (Pleasantview 00:53, 8 May 2007 (UTC))
[edit] This isn't Vandalism
Vandalism is just taking an article and just erasing everything in it and messing with the recourses. This article is 100% relevant to the Jamiroquai one. We have yet to discuss this so I have a right to redirect this page. (Pleasantview 01:14, 8 May 2007 (UTC))

OH shut up. (Pleasantview 06:55, 9 May 2007 (UTC))
- My man, you're so smart and reasonable, you're just not worthy of my time, so please stop wasting your time on me wasting my time with your pointless and biased drivel. That, and you're the one who should shut up. MrFunkster 08:35, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Religion or etnicity
User named Jason-kay-911 change "Kay was born into a Jewish family only with his mother Karen Kay" to "Kay was born into a non-religious family only with his mother Karen Kay". Please note that while "Jewish" may refer to religion, it is an etnicity.
I'm devoted Jamiroquai fan, but I have never heard that Kay was of Jewish ancestry. If there are reliable sources for this, let's re-introduce this statement to the article as soon as we have a proof link. Can someone please post a link to a reliable source?
