1952-2007

C-MIST’s origins go back to 1855.

In promoting health and safety, the former Leith Nautical College had to develop appropriate solutions for the hazards faced by seafarers operating across the oceans and far from third party help.

In the following century, a Hazardous Cargo Handling Unit was set up to support the shipping industry as it became more complex and carried increasingly dangerous and valuable cargoes. As the Unit grew, it established a worldwide reputation for practical solutions to complex problems. After the closure of the College, safety specialists, recognised as authorities in their fields, came forward to establish C-MIST to apply the same principles to other industrial sectors. In this way, C-MIST expanded into seven specialist divisions to become one of the leading providers of safety, health, construction, environmental and fire services to land and sea-based industries worldwide.
