Janeyu
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Janeyu is a sacred thread tied by Hindu Brahmins and it covers neck and upper body. A Brahmin Hindu can be married only after he gets the sacred thread around the body and as such most of the time the ceremony is done before marriage. The thread has six strings and is to be very religiously wound by the concerned person. As per some rituals, the sacred thread has three strings only and it represents second birth. It is a common practice that when a Brahmin goes to attend the nature's call he rotates the Janeyu to pass through the top of Ear. This helps in reducing BP and is also supposed to keep one's sugar under control. It is a very important part of Hindu Brahmins.
