Jane Francis

Jane Francis is a palaeobotanist[1], who in 2002 became the fourth woman to receive the Polar Medal [2].

After graduating with first and second degrees in Geology from the University of Southampton, Francis was an NERC Post-doctoral student at Bedford College, London University.
[edit] Academic Career
From 1984 until 1986 she was Palaeobotanist to the British Antarctic Survey, followed by 5 years as a Research Associate at the University of Adelaide. In 1991 she was appointed a Lecturer in Earth Sciences at the University of Leeds, Senior Lecturer in 1996 and Professor in 2004[3].

In 2003 Francis was awarded the Royal Society Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship. She has additionally been awarded[4] the President's Award from the Palaeontological Society and the US Navy Antarctic medal.
