Jan Leth

Jan Leth (Jan Leth Aagensen) was born the 20th of August 1932 in Elsinore, Denmark.

Jan Leth was trained as a painter, made a name for himself as a lithographic artist, and is in the recent years especially known for his sculptures. He belongs to the elite in the Danish art society.

Jan Leths formal training took place at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art, headed by professor Søren Hjorth Nielsen 1965-69. His first appearance was in 1961 at Kunstnernes Forårudstilling (The Artists Spring Exhibition). He is a member of various artistic groups: Decembristerne, Kunstnersamfundet og Foreningen Danske Grafikere (The Artist Group by the name of Decembristerne, The Association of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, The Association of Danish Printmaking Artist).

Jan Leth has participated in various exhibitions, alone or together with other artists, presenting paintings, sculptures, drawings, and installations on the Danish and international art scenes.

He has received many honours and grants through out his life. The Danish State gave him a lifelong economic grant in 1998.
