JanFamily

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Janfamily was a project by a number of young artists and designers based around Royal College of Art in London. They came together in 2004 to make the book "Plans for other days". The book is a hardback, 224 page book of images and text. It is structured as a long list of suggestions for alternative everyday actions. Each project has a ‘How to…’ title and references an instruction book. The publishing house Booth-Clibborn Editions published the book in 2005. In connection with the launching of "Plans for other days" Janfamily participants did a number of 'open studios' at galleries and exhibition spaces around the world, including Space/Priestor Gallery, Sundown Salon, Los Angeles, Lungomare, Bolzano, Black Block, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, M+R Gallery, London, V1 Gallery, Copenhagen.

The book contains contributions by Chosil Jan Kil, Makin Jan Ma, Daniel Jan Mair, Martino Jan Gamper, Oona Jan Culley, Ingrid Jan Hora, Alex Jan Bettler, Josephine Jan Michau, Nina Jan Beier and Marie Jan Lund. All contributors are now working individually in the fields of art and design. The work in 'Plans for other days' bears reminiscence to early works by artists such as Julius Köller, Joan Jonas, Jiri Kovanda, Richard Long, Anthony McCall and Bruce McLean. Art critics relate their works to that of the Situationists, Fluxus, Happening, Gutai group.
