Jane Frank (Jane Schenthal Frank), "Winter Windows", 1966-1967, 80"x60", Acrylic on double canvas: low-resolution, reduced photo of plate reproduction in Stanton, "The Sculptural Landscape of Jane Frank" (Dr. Phoebe Stanton, 1968)
Like a bone-chilling blast of wind, an icy second canvas cuts through jagged gashes in the ashen, bloody surface of the forward canvas. Dr. Phoebe Stanton called it a "sublime" creation that evokes "sensations of awe and helplessness."
Fair use rationale: this is a low-resolution, reduced photo of a plate reproduction from a book that is long out of print, and it is clearly here substantively necessary for discussion of this artist's style. It is also appropriate and useful for inclusion in the article on winter, where the discussion of winter images and symbolism includes no image of modern art. This can in no way infringe on the copyright of the author (Phoebe Stanton, d. 2003), nor can it do anything but enhance the commercial prospects for sale of the book and of the art itself. Furthermore, this image was nowhere to be found on the internet, so it was not possible merely to provide readers with a link to it.
