Aliya-Jasmine "AJ" Sovani (born November 18, 1981 in Ottawa, Ontario) is one of the eight hosts of the MTV Canada's program MTV Live.[1] Along with her co-hosting responsibilities, Sovani is a segment producer for many social and comedic segments on the show including "Shopping for Coffins" and a reoccurring home design segment called "Budget:Cribs" based on the hit show "MTV Cribs."[2]

While growing up in Ottawa, Sovani attended Confederation High School where her visual arts program allowed her to study in New York, Los Angeles and Italy. [3] After graduating from John McRae Secondary School, Sovani moved on to attend the University of Ottawa where she obtained her bachelor of arts, with a major in broadcast communications while working a full-time job as a writer for a national men’s magazine, UMM. [4]

Sovani moved to Toronto for an internship at Fashion Television and worked part-time as a cable-wrangler for Star! TV.[5] She soon became a field producer and host for bpm:tv for the program "Back at Ya" and later returned to Chum Television as a producer for MuchMusic for the show MuchOnDemand and toured across Canada while working as a host and field producer for the Much VJ Search in 2005.[6] On her current show, MTV Live, she interviews celebrities, including Kanye West, Brad Pitt, Dave Navarro and Perry Farrell.[1]
