James Benson was born in Hutchinson Kansas. He is a graduate of the Prosperity Grade School just north of Hutchinson, the Hutchinson Senior High School, and the University of Kansas. He earned his M.L.S. and Ph.D. from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. He is currently the Vice Provost of St. John's University.
