James Vernor was an inventor from Detroit Michigan who was working on a drink that had a ginger based root. He made several attempts to complete this brew, but he was called off to fight in the Civil War in 1862. He left his concoction in a barrel for four years until his return. He took a drink to realize that his ale was "deliciously different". From then on he was known as the creator of Vernor's Ginger Ale.
