I have added details not available to the 1911 Britannica, but this really needs an up-to-date assessment of Tissot's work, which was much disparaged in its day (and since), but is of inestimable value to costume and cultural historians.
We also need some of his later religious paintings in the gallery for balance and completeness. - PKM 22:57, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
