Talk:James Salter
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Updated to show latest book. The movie version of "The Hunters" was very poor, not just different from the book. The ideas of a pilot deliberately landing behind enemy lines so he can rescue his wingman is absurd. Salter (in "Burning the Days") said very harsh things about the picture. While the movie does have some excellent flying scenes, its silly plot and naively romantic view of combat are so different from anything Salter wrote that its shortcomings ought to be mentioned here.
