James Y. Smith

James Y. Smith (September 15, 1809 - March 26, 1876) was an American politician and a former governor of Rhode Island.

Smith was born in Groton, Connecticut on September 15, 1809. Before becoming the governor of Rhode Island, Smith had a successful career in business. He was the governor of Rhode Island from May 26, 1863 to May 29, 1866.

He died on March 26, 1876.
