James William McClendon Jr.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

James William McClendon Jr. was a Christian theologian in the Anabaptist tradition. His three volume magnum opus consisted of:

Ethics: Systematic Theology Volume 1

Doctrine: Systematic Theology Volume 2

Witness: Systematic Theology Volume 3

His system is post-foundationalist and primarily oriented toward constructing a theological-biblical hermeneutic for Christian communities to answer ethical, doctrinal and witness oriented questions. His ethics is nonviolent and communal, his doctrinal emphases include ecclesiology, eschatology and the resurrection, and his witness consists largely of "reading" culture to decipher where the gospel might be found in culture and where the gospel might critique culture. He was married to Nancey Murphy and taught at Fuller Seminary.
