James Powell (basketball)

James Steven Powell Jr (born January 27, 1987) is an American college basketball player for the University of Santa Barbara (UCSB). Powell was born in Los Angeles to Charmaine and James Powell, Sr. James is a 6-foot-2, 185 pound Guard, who attended Glendora(Ca.) High School in his hometown of Glendora, California. While at Glendora High School, Powell shattered numerous school records.James scored 53 points in a high school game against the Ayala Bulldogs in which he broke a school record for 3-pointers made, posting an impressive 12-for-18 mark from beyond the arc.James Powell started all four years at Glendora High and led his high school team to the third round of the CIF Tournament posting marks of 20.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.4 steals per game shooting 45.0% from the floor overall.Powell was chosen First Team All San Gabriel Valley League three times, First Team All-CIF twice and twice he was named All-Area by the Los Angeles Times.He was also selected the Most Valuable Player of the Southern California Prep Classic All-Star Game.Powell redshirted during his freshman year and retains 4 years of eligibilty. He is a starter on the University of Santa Barbara and hopes to become a salesman.
