James McGowan (born May 30, 1960, in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian actor. Mr. McGowan currently stars as Mike Kessler in the CBC drama series The Border.

Graduated from Concordia University with a B.A. in Communications. After graduating, he worked at McGill University in the Communications Department. He quit at the age of 32 and moved to Toronto, Ontario to pursue acting. In addition to his acting jobs, he has supported himself by waiting tables at "Rain." Rain has the distinction of occupying the site of Toronto’s first women’s prison The Andrew Mercer Reformatory.
Mr. McGowan has appeared in movies such as "The Perfect Man" with Heather Locklear and Hillary Duff and "The Prince and Me" with Julia Stiles. He also played the tall, blonde "goon" in the Verizon Wireless commercial "The Deal." "I thought I told you to come alone."
Mr. McGowan most recently appeared as Ben in "All the Good Ones Are Married" with Daryl Hannah (“Kill Bill: Vol. 1 & 2,” “Splash,” “Steel Magnolias”). “All the Good Ones Are Married” is a television film based on the best selling book All the Good Ones Are Married: Married Men and the Women Who Love Them by Marion Zola.
