James Dickens (U.S. politician)

James Lee Dickens Jr. is a former member of the city council of Irving, Texas. He was re-elected in May 2004 to serve a three-year term but was defeated in 2007.

A resident of Irving, since 1960, James Dickens is the son of a U.S. father and a Mexican mother. He is fluent in Spanish. Dickens has two sisters, Linda and Eileen. Eileen resides in Puebla, Mexico, with the maternal family and Linda lives in Irving, Tx.

Dickens is a City of Irving Public Works/Engineering retiree. As of 2007, he currently serves as a member of the council's Public Works committee and chair of the Community Services committee. He also serves as the Council liaison to the Parks and Recreation Board and Youth Council, as well as the alternate liaison to the Preservation and Redevelopment Board. Additionally, Dickens serves on the Board of Directors of the North Texas Urban League and the Supplemental Benefits Plan Board.

Dickens was first elected in 2001. He was re-elected in May 2004 to serve a three-year term. On May 12, 2007, Dickens lost his bid for reelection to Thomas D. Spink by a vote of 3,901 to 2,700. City council elections in Texas are nonpartisan.
