Dr. James Carmichael Renick is an American academic, and the former Chancellor of University of Michigan-Dearborn. Renick graduated from Central State University with his Bachelors degree in 1970. He would then go on to receive a Masters degree from Kansas University in 1972, and a Doctorate from Florida State University in 1980.

Renick was named Chancellor of University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1993, and he left that position to become President of North Carolina A & T State University in 1999. He stayed at that position until 2006, and then took a Vice President position at the American Council on Education.
