James Bay Energy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

James Bay Energy Corporation (in French Société d'energie de la Baie James) was founded as a consortium of three companies, Hydro-Québec, SNC-Lavalin, and Bechtel, to build a series of hydroelectric dams in northern Quebec during the 1970s and early 1980s. Upon completion, the dams all came under the control of Hydro-Québec.

The James Bay project was instigated by former Premier of Quebec Robert Bourassa.

The system is now known as the La Grande basin.
