Jack Trimpey and his wife Lois, are the founders and president and vice-president (respectively) of Rational Recovery, a for-profit organization. He works in the field of treatment of alcoholism and other drug addictions. He admits to 25 years of "world class alcoholism", from which experience he developed his system of self recovery based on a process of gradually refusing to continue drinking. He teaches, through books, classes and internet training, a technique which he called AVRT, or Addictive Voice Recognition Technique. This method attempts to teach substance abusers to achieve complete abstinence of alcohol and other drugs by psychologically recognizing what Trimpey refers to as The Beast, meaning anything (thought, behavior, etc.) that leads to using alcohol or drugs again. He is the author of Rational Recovery; The New Cure for Substance Addiction.
