Jack Fultz
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jack Fultz was the winner of the 1976 Boston Marathon. Also known as "The Run for the Hoses", spectators used garden hoses to spray water on the course and allow the runners to cool themselves down. The temperature was 100 degrees one hour before the noon time start in Hopkinton and the officially recorded temperature on that day was 91 degrees [1].
The official finish time for Jack Fultz was 2:20:19.
Jack has not only finished the Boston Marathon in first place but, in 1995, added the distinction of finishing last. Each year, BAA race director Dave McGillivray runs the Boston Marathon course after all the other entrants have started[2]. In 1995, Jack Fultz accompanied him on the run. As they crossed the finish line, Jack slowed down a step making him the actual last official finisher of the day.
Jack Fultz is now an instructor of sport psychology at Tufts University, a fitness consultant and personal coach, and a training consultant to the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge.
In 1996, Fultz was inducted into the DC Road Runners Hall of Fame.[3]
