James Smiley Dixon "Dixie" Gilmore was Lord Mayor of Belfast from 1987 to 1988 having previously been Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast.
Gilmore was a member of the Ulster Unionist and had formerly served in the Army in Malaysia where he met his wife Esme.
Gilmore was a shopkeeper by trade, owning a corner shop on Belfast's Cromwell Road in the University area.
