Not sure how all this works and not that interested in finding out, but since this showed up when I requested the ENGLISH version of Wikipedia perhaps Kiessling should appear (at least in parenthesis) instead of some strange letter from an alphabet that most English speakers do not know. --65.81.254.22 09:03, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Al Germany

Kießling is a German name and thus is customarily spelt with the ß ligature. The fact that you requested the English Wikipedia does not alter the man's name. It is Wikipedia policy and general common courtesy to spell foreign names in English texts as they are spelt in their native languages, so long as the script used is based upon the Latin alphabet and is thus more-or-less readable to the average English speaker. Readers ignorant of the ß ligature are welcome to look it up in Wikipedia (easily done by copy and pasting it from the title into the search box) if they wish to know more about it. We have a redirect to this article from "Juergen Kiessling", if you are concerned about readers being unable to find an article filed under a title containing characters not found on their keyboards. Page moved...I can find no evidence of "Kießling" being English usage. Vast majority of English citations result in Kiessling. Matter of Jürgen versus Juergen more nuanced. Some English sources use Jürgen (New York Times), some use Juergen (The Independent).Erudy (talk) 17:11, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
